LTJ Instructors

LTJ prides itself on the quality and dedication of its instructors. Every instructor at our academy is energized by teaching and truly has a heart for his or her students. It is a quality that is easily seen in their dedication to their classes night after night, week after week. Allow us to introduce you to just a few of the teaching staff at LTJ:

Mr. Mohammed

5th Degree Black Belt
Chief LTJ Instructor
Certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Instructor (Purple Belt)

Jamal has been a student of Taekwondo for over fifteen years. He has been an instructor in Gracie Jiujitsu since 2007. He has competed and placed in many competitions world wide including the US Open ISKA World Championship. He has won multiple state and national titles for both extreme and traditional martial arts and also trained in bo staff, nunchucks, and eskrima.

In addition to his role as instructor, Jamal enjoys offering his skills to the community as well. He regularly offers free demonstrations and lessons to schools and other organizations. He also makes himself available to provide lectures and demonstrations with positive messages to kids.

Mrs. Hersel

Chief LTJ Instructor

Tina has trained in the art of Taekwando for over 15 years.  She has over 12 years of experience teaching children and adults of all ages at LTJ as well as at various locations throughout the community.  Teaching is truly a passion for Tina and she has taught several women's and children's self-defense/stranger awareness seminars and is most energized when she feels she is able to be a part of empowering those in need.  Tina has also been involved with several educational programs/series geared towards understanding and dealing with children living with ADD/ADHD.

In addition to her career in teaching and training at LTJ, Tina also attended college at University of Kentucky, majoring in business management.

Mr. Hersel

4th Degree Black Belt
Senior LTJ Instructor

Training for six years and instructing for three, Andrew Hersel has been a stable part of the LTJ leadership.  Andrew also serves as one of LTJ's weapons instructors leading classes in the art of nunchaku (nunchucks), Bo staff, and various other weapons.  He is also a regular participant and assistant in the LTJ jiujitsu program.  Growing up, Andrew showed integrity and personal discipline as he worked his way up through the ranks of the Boy Scout program, eventually reaching the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 18.  Graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2004 with a degree in Business Management, when not teaching classes, Andrew applies the tenants of the LTJ academy to the business world as an insurance underwriter.
